Bell Fund distributes $5.4M across 30 projects

Among the series and digital media companions receiving funding were W Network’s The Bachelorette Canada and the second season of City’s Between.
The Bell Fund has distributed $5.4 million across 30 projects and their corresponding digital media components, including W Network’s The Bachelorette Canada from Good Human Productions and the Bristow Global Media’s Canada: The Story of Us (CBC).
The digital accompaniment to The Bachelorette Canada is a 10-month engagement campaign which gives fans the chance to participate in the show, while The Story of Us will be paired with a Secret Location-created app featuring three immersive 360-degree virtual reality vignettes.
Other English-language television series and their corresponding digital media projects to receive funding through the fund’s production program are 9 Story Media’s The 3 Amigonauts (YTV), Don Carmody Television’s Between season two (City), Screen Siren Pictures’ Canada In A Day (CTV), Rezolution Pictures’ Mohawk Girls season four (APTN), Boat Rocker Media’s The Next Step (Family Channel), marblemedia’s Opie’s Home! (TVO), ZhuZhu Pets (YTV) and White Pine Pictures’ Where the Universe Sings: The Spiritual Journey of Lawren Harris (CBC’s Documentary channel and TVO).
In the fund’s low-budget production program, the broadcast and digi projects to receive coin were Markham Street Films’ Celtic Soul (Super Channel), Forte Entertainment’s Snapshots (CBC), Eagle Vision’s Taken (CBC, APTN) and Don Ferguson Productions’ Worldwide Horror (Super Channel). The broadcasters attached to The 3 Amigonauts, Canada: The Story of Us, Where the Universe Sings: The Spiritual Journey of Lawren Harris, Snapshots, Opie’s Home! and Canada In A Day have not yet made formal announcements regarding their status, while other series and projects mentioned above have been greenlit.
On the French-language side, the projects to receive funding were Zone3′s Comment devenir une légende? (Vrak TV), Encore Télévision’s Les Pays d’en haut (SRC, AMI-tv), Téléfiction Productions’ Salmigondis (Télé-Québec, Radio-Canada) and Attraction Images’ Web Thérapie (TV5). Blimp Télé’s À fond de train (TV5 Unis) and Sport’s OUACHE!(TV5 Unis) received funding through the low-budget French-language program.
The Bell Fund’s development stream distributed funding to Mercury Films’ Anthropogenic Space, Buffalo Gal Pictures’ Friends and Other Magic, Hop to It Productions’ Penny P Pug, DHX Media Vancouver and Nerd Corps’ The Deep and Zone3′s Montréal en temps et lieux. 9 Story’s Camp Lakebottom: Protect the Flag and Productions OuiSurf Inc.’s OuiSurf received support via the performance accelerator program.
The Bell Fund approved 30 of a total 52 applications received in the latest round of funding.
